How Surprise Christmas Lights Went From Empty Lot to Sold-Out Nights

I still remember the first time we went to Surprise Christmas Lights last December. We were driving from Surprise toward Glendale, and the closer we got to Desert Diamond Casino, the more we started seeing lights in the distance. Kids in the cars around us were pointing out the windows, and we kept hearing people laughing and reacting to the big displays. You just get in the car, turn on the radio station, and drive through millions of lights while listening to Christmas music.

Now we're already planning to go again next season. We're talking about inviting friends and maybe going on a weeknight so we can take our time and not feel rushed. It's the kind of thing that easily turns into a holiday tradition without you even planning for it to.

West Valley Holiday Tradition

One thing I noticed while we were there was how many people were coming from all over the West Valley. You could see license plates and hear people talking about where they drove from. Families come from Surprise, Glendale, Peoria, Goodyear, Avondale, Buckeye, Sun City, and even Phoenix to see the lights near Desert Diamond Casino.

It makes sense because there aren't many big Christmas light events in the West Valley, and this one's easy to get to from a lot of cities. If you live in Surprise, it's a pretty short drive to Glendale, which makes it a great holiday activity close to home. We're planning to watch for tickets to go on sale and buy them early next time. A lot of nights sell out, and now we understand why. Surprise Christmas Lights is one of those things people plan their December around once they go the first time.

It's one of the easiest ways to get into the holiday spirit in the Phoenix area, and it's something you can do with kids, friends, family, or even just for a date night.

The Drive Back to Surprise

I think one of my favorite parts of the night was actually driving back toward Surprise after we left. Christmas music was still playing on the radio, and we kept talking about our favorite displays and which tunnels of lights we liked the most. You could still see the glow of the lights in the distance for a while as we drove away from Glendale.

It felt like the holiday season had officially started that night. Now every time December gets close, we start talking about when we're going to go again. It's become one of those traditions that just happens every year without even thinking about it.

If you live in Surprise or anywhere in the West Valley, it's definitely worth the short drive to Glendale to see the lights. We're already planning our next trip, and we'll probably be buying our tickets early this year so we don't miss out.
